About us
Between the two of us, we have been to Italy 27 times (and counting). We are a father/daughter who love to travel around Italy. While the tourist attractions are typically lovely, we prefer the authentic, lesser known experiences. We call it “Behind the Scenes of Italy” since we go places so few people have seen.
We have done a ton of research on different regions, but – more importantly – we have gotten to know some of the best people who have shown us around their home country. We have stayed in former castles, visited countless wineries, and thrown Euros in famous fountains. But, some of our most memorable experiences include fishing with a local fisherman in Positano at 4AM, staying at the ceramic shop owner’s home, and trying the worst homemade grappa around the dinner table at a small inn with the innkeeper and staff.

A Bit More About Us
Who We Are
We are a father (Sergio) and daughter (Molly) who love traveling to Italy and sharing the best of the best with our family and friends.
You will also see our mother (Liz) and brother (Alex) throughout our blog. We typically travel as a unit of four to Italy, but sometimes expand the trips to include close friends or extended family.
Where We Have Been
We have traveled to 19 of the 21 regions in Italy: Sardinia, Sicily, Calabria, Puglia, Campania, Lazio, Molise, Abruzzo, Umbria, Tuscany, Le Marche, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria, Piemonte, Lombardia, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Basilicata, & Piedmont.
We certainly have favorites – and will explain why we love some areas more than others! We will also provide some itineraries for different regions, if you would like to follow along with what we have done in the past!
Why We Do It
Sergio speaks fluent Italian, which definitely helps us to know the locals and better understand how to experience the authentic side of Italy. Three of the four of us are Italian Citizens! Sergio’s great-grandfather emigrated from Italy many, many years ago. The Italian Culture always remained a big part of our lives, including what we like to eat (Prosciutto!) and drink (Prosecco!). After our first trip to Italy, we all fell in love and knew we would come back as often as possible. We want to share our love of Italy with all of you and inspire you to have the same magical trips with your family and friends.

When will Teddy join you? He loves to chew on boots, no?
Lots of fun!
Ha! That he does. Perhaps Teddy and Huckleberry should make the next trip, but they might not appreciate the finer things our trips have to offer!
We have loved all the travel help/tips/recommendations we’ve received from you on some of our trips to Italy and can’t wait to see more of your favorites!
Yay! We cannot wait to share all of our favorite “secret spots”! Including the cute apartment in Positano that we all stayed at 🙂
So exciting. I can’t wait to read up on all the great places in Italy that I’ll visit next!
Yay! We are so excited you are here!!
Bellissima
Grazie!
The Murer’s helped us plan our trip to Italy through Tuscany down to the Amalfi coast and our favorite parts of each location were the charming, hidden spots they recommended. We can’t wait to go back to other regions to explore more of their recommendations!
Yay!! So glad you had the best trip!! We definitely agree that the hidden spots are so charming and always the best memories. We can’t wait to share more of our favorites!
Love the blog – well thought out, organized and executed.
Some ideas:
Medieval ( and not only) traditions many cities and different states have : Tuscany with Palio ( Siena) giostra del saracino (Arezzo), calcio in costume (Florence) and so on….
Ancient rivalries between states and within each state.
Soccer nomenclature of some matches: usually referred as “derby”, one is Dell’Appennino ( between Florence “ i viola” and Bologna ……)
These are aspects very dear to Italians and usually unknown to tourists.
Ciao!
Ah, Roberto these are great ideas, and yes we will write about them. We may need your assistance, as an Italiano vero! Speaking of the Palio, we bought scarves in Siena the first time we attended. Molly wore this one as a babushka for years in her youth. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.crwflags.com%2Ffotw%2Fflags%2Fit%40siena.html&psig=AOvVaw0hjRdflYUUqkPbM2OWeW58&ust=1638390973094000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAsQjRxqFwoTCLDi4JH4wPQCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD

This is great! I’m already a fan as one of my best trips was based on Sergio’s recommendations in Tuscany! El falconare in bagno vignone! Keep it coming!!
Nick – You are too kind… I look forward to visiting Croatia some day and following the recommendations that you shared with me. I still have my notes from that discussion.

Thank you!
I’m interested to hear your story on obtaining dual citizenship. My great grandparents on both of my mothers side also immigrated from Italy and we are just starting to research the possibility!
Sounds great. The most important step is to determine which Italian consulate has jurisdiction over where you live — just search Italian Consulate near me in Google and then ensure they have jurisdiction
Also, the rules differ between heritage through a mother versus father. Check the consulate rules closely depending on when your grandmother was born
